Spangels 2 Engine Room 3

BNESL Division Three

On another day Spangels would have comfortably won this game. With a performance that saw them enjoy greater possession and create a number of chances, Spangels will point towards poor finishing and defensive lapses that allowed the three points to go to their opponents.

With 15 players to choose from, Pritchard was left with a difficult, but healthy, selection problem prior to kick-off.

Ramsay took over for the second time this season between the sticks, as Seymour was sporting a back injury. The only other player missing was Tivey, who departs for Aus' next weekend.

Early Spangels pressure brought reward, with several half chances created and as Whiteman forced the Engine Room 'keeper to parry, Sayer was in the right place at the right time to finish from six yards, his first this season.

Almost immediately, though, Spangels allowed their opponents to equalise, with poor marking the culprit. This failed to phase the team too much, as again Spangels forged ahead, this time via a scuffed Lowe effort from 20 yards which squirmed into the net via two deflections.

Those defensive frailties continued however and the home side gifted another two to the Engine Room prior to half-time.

So, 3-2 down and the second half saw Spangels dominate, creating several chances, notably to Todd, Rivett and Williams with finishing ultimately letting the team down. It was a valiant effort though, with frustration clear at the final whistle at losing to a lesser team.

Team : Ramsay, Lynch, Wilson (Rivett), Pritchard, Theobald (C), Lowe (1)(Hagan), Sayer (1), Collis (Todd), Winsborough, Whiteman, Williams.

Spangels MOM : Matt Theobald.

Thought we lost today as we were missing the pacey, tricky and creative left winger we had in the first half against boar sports a few weeks ago!
