Spangels 1 Chelmer Village Athletic 5

BNESL Division Three

After two straight victories, Spangels were defeated today in a match where few players on the home side did themselves justice.

May be it was the now unfamiliar surroundings of The Rec', John Ray Street, which caused problems, but Spangels never really got going in this match.

Chelmer took the lead inside the first 15 minutes, although there was an appeal for handball in the build-up to the goal. They created a few other chances, with Spangels kicking up-hill with the wind in their faces in the first half.

An equaliser came shortly before half-time, when a sublime ball from Whiteman allowed Collis to run through and finish well with a first-time effort.

One each at half-time was slightly flattering to the home side, but unfortunately they were unable to move up a gear.

Chelmer came out in the second half and quickly established a lead which they weren't to lose, scoring at regular internals whilst Spangels tried in vain to get back into the game.

A poor performance, then, although in truth Spangels were beaten by a better side.

Team; Seymour, Revitt, Sayer, Pritchard (Underdown), Theobald (C), Lowe (Hart), Tivey, Wilson, A.Weeks, Whiteman, Collis (1).

Spangels 2 Royal United 0

BNESL Division Three

Two home games and two wins, both by the same two-nil scoreline. Spangels again controlled this match and ended up comfortable winners against a poor Royal United side.

The scoring was opened early in the game by the prolific Whiteman, who volleyed home from eight yards after another wonder-ball from Lowe, this goal a replica of the one against Panfield. Chances were also created for Collis and Weeks (on his debut), but no further goals were added before half time.

There was a scare mid-way through the first half, with the Spangels post struck from close range, but apart from this effort, Royal United looked unlikely to score.

The second half saw Collis notch his first competitive goal for the club after good work by Weeks on the right. Two Royal defenders got in a tangle and Collis swept the ball home from close range.

Collis was guilty of missing an open net later on in the half, as was Wilson (twice!). However, there was little chance of Spangels letting this one slip and they have now bagged six points from three games.

Team; Seymour, Lynch, Sayer, Pritchard, Theobald (C), Lowe, Winsborough, Wilson, P.Weeks (Underdown), Collis (1), Whiteman (1).

Spangels 2 AFC Foxco 0

BNESL Division Three

Spangels went some way to making up for their heavy defeat last week, by winning today at home to AFC Foxco.

Whilst they weren't able to repeat the 5-1 friendly victory of only a month ago, Spangels enjoyed slightly more possession and were rewarded with three points.

With commanding displays from many of the players, it was pleasing to see the right attitude from all, compared with last week's debacle.

The scoring was opened in the first half, when a long kick by Spangels 'keeper Seymour found the Foxco defence wanting and Whiteman was able to pounce, lobbing Foxco's custodian from 15 yards.

The second followed soon after, when a Lowe corner followed by a Collis flicked header caused problems in the box, with a hapless Foxco defender prodding the ball into his own net (a-la Pritchard last week!).

Two-nil up at half-time meant it was important to maintain a water-tight back line in the opening moments of the second half. The defence was well protected, with an excellent display from the tough-tackling, no nonsense Tivey. Spangels created other chances with both Collis and Winsborough going close.

There was shock all round at the final whistle, as this group of players have not won a game since 14th March 2004!

Team; Seymour, Lynch, Sayer, Pritchard, Theobald (C), Lowe, Tivey, Winsborough, Hagan (Underdown), Collis, Whiteman (1).

Panfield Bell Rovers 9 Spangels 1

BNESL Division Three

In a sorry start to the season, Spangels went down nine-one today at the hands of a greatful Panfield Bell Rovers. The away side never got going and were a goal down as early as the third minute, when circus-act centre-back Pritchard smashed the ball into his own net from close range.

By half-time Spangels were five-one down, with only a stunning Whiteman volley from a Lowe ball to show for themselves.

The second half saw the home side pile on another four, in a game all Spangels players will quickly want to forget.

Team; Seymour, Lynch, Sayer, Pritchard (Winsborough), Theobald (C), Lowe, Tivey, Collis (Underdown), Martin, Whiteman (1), Hagan (Hart).
